The Labor Government is prioritising cost of living relief for everyday Australians.
Tax Cuts for Every Taxpayer
- We’ve given all 13.6 million Australian taxpayers a tax cut
- 2.9 million lower income earners who were excluded from the Morrison Government scheme, are now getting a tax cut
- 11.5 million taxpayers are better off than they were under the Morrison Government scheme
Energy Bill Relief
- In 2022, we passed emergency laws to give pensioners, veterans and concession card holders a $500 energy rebate, benefitting over 5.5 million households
- In the 2023/2024 budget, we delivered a $300 energy rebate to every Australian household, and additional energy bill relief for small businesses
Cheaper Childcare
- We’ve invested $4.7 billion over 4 years to make early education and care more affordable for 96% of families
- Every family earning under $530,000 a year are now entitled to a subsidy, with an extra 10% subsidy for families earning under $80,000 per year
Cheaper Medicines & GP Visits
- We’ve lowered the maximum cost of prescription medication on the PBS to just $31.60, saving Australians more than $250 million in 2023
- We’ve introduced 60 day prescriptions for more than 300 medicines on the PBS, saving patients up to $189.60 per medicine per year
- In the 2022/23 Budget, our government tripled the bulk billing incentive for GPs, helping nearly a million extra patients a month see the doctor for free
Wage Rise
- With the support of the Albanese Labor Government, the Fair Work Commission announced a 3.75% increase in award wages
- We’ve invested $20.7 billion to fund an average 23% pay rise for aged care workers
- We’re also delivering a 15% pay rise for early childhood educators, and
Student Debt Relief
- We’ve wiped more than $3 billion in student debt for more than 3 million Australians with student loans
- We’ve capped the HELP Indexation rate so that student debt can never increase faster than average wage growth
- A re-elected Labor government will cut a further 20% off every student's debt - that's $16 billion in student debt relief
Paid Parental Leave
- We’ve invested $1.2 billion to expand the Paid Parental Leave Scheme to 26 weeks by 2026, benefitting over 180,000 families per year
- From 1 July 2024, superannuation will be paid on Paid Parental Leave
Protecting consumers
- We’ve given $30 million to the ACCC the help crack down on misleading and deceptive pricing by supermarkets
- We’ve given $2.1 million to the ACCC to crack down on excessive surcharge fees, and we’ve announced a ban on debit card surcharges
